As a follow-up to our program last August titled “Understanding Christian Nationalism”, the Justice and Peace Advocacy Committee will be presenting a two-part program which was inspired by the ELCA’s recent social statement on Faith and Civic Life.  Having explored the toxic and heretical version of Christianity that is promoted by the Christian Nationalism ideology, we wanted to examine how robust civic engagement as a public good is both our calling as Christians and our responsibility as residents of this country.

The first session will be held on Wed., April 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will focus on the proliferation of misinformation, disinformation, and lies in the public sphere, how that damages our democracy, and how we can discern what’s true and what’s false.  The second session will be held on Thurs., May 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will focus on the Separation of Church and State as outlined in the First Amendment of the Constitution.  We will discuss the beliefs of the Founding Fathers, how the wall between Church and State has eroded and why this separation matters.  Join us in Fellowship Hall for this timely and relevant conversation.
